The Man on the Moon

Thank you.

Photo taken by me at 8:30pm.

I just want to say thank you for being an important part of my childhood.

When I was young, maybe 6 or 7, I was told when I was upset or angry to talk to the man on the moon. He would make me feel better, a way to talk without judgment. So, every full moon, I would either look out my window or make a quick trip outside to talk to the man on the moon.

It always did make me feel better. I actually carried on doing this into my teens. Now, yes, I know there is no actual man on the moon. It was more about comfort once I got old enough to know there was no man. I would always start with To the Man on the Moon, and end with thank you.

I honestly don’t know why I stopped. I just know here lately every full moon I catch myself looking at it and thinking back to those times. It was such a reliving feeling talking to the moon. After the talk, I just felt free. Like all the worries were gone. Like, no matter what happened, the man on the moon was there to listen.

It may have just been some silly childhood thing. It is also something that makes you think. Like seeing the moon tonight brought back those times. I know I am 32, but maybe that is something I need to start doing again. Instead of talking to the man on the moon, just talk to the moon. Dump my worries, thoughts, feelings, and emotions on the moon and let it take it away.
