Andrei Chikatilo
The Butcher of Rostov

Born on October 16, 1936, Andrei Chikatilo was born. He was a Soviet serial killer. He was nicknamed: the butcher of Rostov, the Rostov Ripper, and the Red Ripper. He confessed to 56 murders, was tried for 53 murders, and sentenced to death for 52 murders.
Andrei had a difficult childhood. He grew up in Ukraine State of the USSR. Stalin’s policies of agricultural collectivization caused hardship and famine. That means that Andrei early childhood was influenced by deprivation. It got worse when World War 2 started. His father had gone to war and was captured. Held a prisoner. When he came home, he was vilified by his countryman for being caught. Andrei suffered the consequences of his dad’s cowardice, from being caught and held prisoner, and was the focus of bullying.
He believed that he suffered from hydrocephalus, which caused genital-urinary tract problems. He suffered from bed-wetting til his late adolescence due to it. His mother would tell him often that he had an older brother. She had told him his brother was kidnapped and eaten by the neighbors. Even though the story she had told him was never verified, it was motivated enough for him to cannibalize some victims. Andrei had the inability to sustain an erection.
