6:30am- morning whistle

6:50am- morning count

6:55am- breakfast

7:20am- time for work, those not assigned a job went back to their cells.

7:25am- after breakfast count

9:30am- rest period, the men were allowed to smoke, but not be around each other.

9:38am- work again, mid-morning count

11:30am- lunch

12:00pm- lunch over, prisoners return to cells for noon count.

12:30pm- back to work

2:30pm- rest period

2:38pm-back to work

4:20pm- dinner, dinner count

4:45pm- return- final count

8:00pm- count in cells

9:30pm- lights out, count

3:00am- early morning count

5:00am- count in cells.

Federal inmates are required to work. The only exception was unless they were medically unable, violent, or disruptive. Alcatraz work included factory work, laundry, general prison maintenance, and food preparation. Gardening was also a job they had there.
